AUBURN — Auburn Main Street and the Downtown Auburn Business Association will kick off We Love Auburn Month with their annual yarn bombing installation today.
February will mark the fifth time Auburn Main Street has presented We Love Auburn Month.
“The goal of the event is to bring the community downtown during a time of year when the community tends to suffer from ‘cabin fever,’” said Auburn Main Street President Sarah Payne.
Yarn bombing installations are going up today and will need to be removed on Feb. 23. Communities including Angola, Waterloo, Butler, Fremont, and Hamilton are also participating in the yarn bombing fun.
Throughout February, Auburn Main Street will present events each weekend to engage the community. While several of the events are intended to be fundraisers for Auburn Main Street’s downtown revitalization efforts, all are intended to drive traffic and engage the community in the downtown.
Several community partners will host “Community Care Events,” where a portion of proceeds from the event will help to support Auburn Main Street’s work.
For the First Friday event in February, Auburn Main Street and the Downtown Auburn Business Association will present Ice Sculpture Art on the evening of Feb.1 at the James Cultural Plaza. Ice sculptors from Indiana Ice Studio will be on hand for demonstrations, including a sculpt-off. Demonstrations will begin around 5:30 p.m.
Each month, Auburn Main Street hosts a First Friday event that includes late-night shopping, family-friendly activities, live entertainment, food, locally crafted beverages and more.
Special events continue Feb 9 and 10 from noon to 4 p.m. with the Auburn Ice Rink, which will be installed downtown on Cedar Street near the intersection of 9th Street. The use of the rink and skate rentals will be offered for freewill donations to Auburn Main Street.
