JA Hall of Fame Awards

FORT WAYNE — Junior Achievement will salute community leaders, educators and volunteers at the DeKalb Business Hall of Fame Awards on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

The event will be held at the Parkview Mirro Center, 10622 Parkview Plaza, with cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and the program beginning at 7 p.m.

The DeKalb Business Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding contributions to industry, business and the community.

“The strength of our community rests on such people as they have developed our resources and built our industry,” according to a news release from Junior Achievement.

The 2019 inductees to the DeKalb Business Hall of Fame are Mark Fogt from Garrett State Bank and Chris Straw of Team Quality Services in Auburn.

Junior Achievement will present Excellence in Academic Achievement Awards to seven area volunteers for excellence in economic education. They are Mark Beakas from Eaton, Jody Betley from DeKalb Middle School, Lori Kaiser from Eastside High School, Gary Morris from Therma-Tru, Mike Ley from Signature Construction, Deb Smith from J.E. Ober Elementary School and Stacy Schmidt, city champion for Lemonade Day.

The awards honor educators and volunteers involved in the Junior Achievement programs for their innovation, outstanding dedication, past involvement, promotion of the program, and the excitement they generate for work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.

Serving more than 140,000 pre-kindergarten through high school students in 30 northern Indiana and Michiana counties and into one county in Ohio each year, Junior Achievement is dedicated to educating and inspiring young people to succeed in a global economy.

Junior Achievement partners with more than 4,700 educators and 7,100 positive adult role models. They volunteer their time at JA events in school, JA BizTown and JA Finance Park economic education programs that focus on three key content areas: work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. The experiences aim to empower young people toward their own future economic success.
