Susie Mural in Butler

Susie, Butler’s pet deer, and her twin fawns are the subject of DeKalb County artist Amy Buchs’ latest mural. Commissioned by Sondra Phillips, it can be found on the north wall of Nana’s Gift Shoppe at 201 S. Broadway. Buchs began this mural — her fourth in Butler — after completing the American flag mural. “While I was painting this one, a lot of people shared stories about interacting with Susie,” Buchs said. “That’s what made it so enjoyable. It gives people so many memories of this deer.” A fifth mural is planned this summer at the Butler Police Department.
