Eastside students toured Heidtman Steel near Butler March 27. The tour was focused on preparing the students to enter the workforce with an emphasis on the importance of their current education and how imperative it is to their future. Students were split into three groups. While one group toured the manufacturing floor, the other two groups had sessions focusing on career opportunities and associated skill sets, with an emphasis on soft skills and resume/interview skills. In the career and soft skills presentation, students were told the importance of attendance, teamwork, integrity, respectfulness and every day use of basic math skills. The interview/resume session focused on resume preparation and interview etiquette. “We feel these topics play an important role to enrich the local community,” Heidtman officials said in a news release. “We were honored to give the students insight and contribute towards preparing the youth of today become the workforce of tomorrow.”
