Miller's Employee of the Year

GARRETT — Miller’s Merry Manor’s 2018 employee of the year Neoshia Westbrook admits she was reserved when she joined the staff nine months ago.

“I remember when she first got hired here, she was shy, and quiet,” said her supervisor, Chris Combs. “We all pretty much know you are not shy and quiet anymore. I think we are very lucky to have you, and we appreciate everything that you do.”

Westbrook works full-time in the housekeeping department, noting this is her very first job.

She applied for the housekeeping and laundry position, and that was where she wanted to be. A Butler native, she now lives in Garrett with her sister, Allison Westbrook, who joined the Miller’s staff a few months later.

Westbrook said the best part of her day is just talking to the residents. Her duties include putting out the laundry for residents and cleaning their rooms, so she has a chance to talk to them and enjoy their company.

She has also been working in the dietary department, she said.

“I love working here, it’s the best place to work. I love the staff, the residents, the family that comes in,” she said.

Working with people has brought her out of her shell, a little bit at a time, she added.

“I did come in very shy, very reserved, and then I just felt like I was coming into a family and was being treated like a family member,” Westbrook said.

Administrator Lindsey Floyd announced Westbrook as the honoree at a reception earlier this month. The employee of the year is based on votes on by employees, staff and some residents, with candidates coming from the 2018 employees of the month.

“This is very well-deserved,” Floyd said to Westbrook. “You encompass our five core values — passion, growth, stewardship, integrity and adaptability. You are always seen with a big smile on your face, and you always have a positive attitude. We want to thank you for enriching the lives of

our residents, us, the staff and also our visitors every day you are here. We are so thankful to have you be a part of our team.”

Westbrook was presented with a plaque, and her name was added to a plaque of award recipients at the Garrett campus. She will also receive her choice of Miller’s apparel and a day off with pay.
