Town of Hamiliton

Population: 1,532

Known as "Enterprise" in the late 1830's, the area where the town is located was sold & the name was changed to Hamilton in 1844. The area had pioneers settling as early as the middle of the 1700's. Before pioneers arrived, Native American Indians were drawn to Hamilton in great numbers because of the many lakes & prosperous fishing.

The Town of Hamilton borders DeKalb and Steuben counties.

Education

All students attend Hamilton Community schools.

Government

Five at-large council members, clerk treasurer elected every four years. Council meets every first Monday of each month.

Emergency Services

The police department includes marshall, deputies, & reserve officers. The Hamilton fire station is located at town hall with fire chief and assistant fire chief.

Utilities

Electric services are provided by Indiana Michigan Power Company, natural gas provider is NIPSCO.

Amenities

Hamilton is a small town, however the summer season is quite busy. Hamilton lake is quite popular covering 800+ acres. Many fish, boat, water ski, and use the 2 mile fish creek trail.
